If Stokes started the Mbargo fight, he should quit vice-captaincy: Derek Pringle

Former English cricketer Derek Pringle reckons Ben Stokes should quit England’s vice-captaincy if he had embarked the controversial late-night fight. He was involved in a brawl on the streets outside the Mbargo nightclub and CCTV footage clearly showed that Stokes had punched an unknown man on his face on numerous occasions.

The former Three Lions’ fast bowler Pringle reckons Sany such sort of violence is completely unacceptable, even if it’s for the sake of self-defense. “I’ve seen a version of the video, it’s still not very clear to me who started it all. If he’s culpable in starting it, I think he should be stripped off the vice-captaincy,” said Pringle.

“I don’t think all the facts have come out yet [but] Violence is unacceptable. Even if it’s self-defense, it has to be reasonable and proportionate and he does seem to go after [the other party],” Pringle added. Stokes is currently being interrogated about the feud and his partner Alex Hales, who was also spotted kicking the face of a man in the video, is also under the scanner.

Stokes ineligible for England team selection

England Cricket Board (ECB) have announced that both the players are ineligible for a national team selection currently and a call will be taken on them only after the investigation is over. ECB also announced that their full payments too will not be cleared till the investigation report is presented to them.

England might be missing the services of the talented all-rounder for the rest of the year. But what the fans are most worried about is his probable absence in the Ashes. The coveted series which is set to begin at the end of this year will be hosted by Australia and England will be needing all their big players in good touch. But it seems highly unlikely as of now for the case to close down quickly, which might mean England will travel without the 26-year-old.
