Sanjay Manjrekar has recently been a recipient of severe criticism from the public over the last few days. A few days ago, a supporter complained to the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the commentator called MS Dhoni as ‘our watchdog behind the stumps’. The 53-year-old Manjrekar, who’s also a former Indian cricketer, has been accused of showing biases while being on air.
Recently, he had an altercation with Ravindra Jadeja, who is currently playing in the 2019 edition of the World Cup in England and Wales. Manjrekar referred to Jadeja as a ‘bits and pieces’ player and he doesn’t like a player of his quality. Moreover, the experienced commentator felt that the all-rounder is only a player for Tests and he doesn’t fit the bill in ODIs by any means.
The harsh words didn’t go down well with Jadeja by any stretch of the imagination and he lashed out at Manjrekar with all his might. Jadeja referred to his words as ‘verbal diarrhoea’ and also made him aware of the number of international matches they have played. The 30-year-old Jadeja asked Manjrekar to respect cricketers, who have achieved something in their career.
The fans supported the Saurashtra cricketer for speaking out and slammed Manjrekar left, right and centre. Jadeja got to his play his first match against Sri Lanka and he picked up the wicket of Kusal Mendis. Co-incidentally, Manjrekar was the one in the commentary box during that time.
To everyone’s surprise, he also picked Jadeja in his eleven for India’s semi-final match against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand on July 9 at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Later Michael Vaughan, the former England cricketer, noticed that Manjrekar went for Jadeja.
Siddarth hurls criticism at Sanjay Manjrekar
He trolled Manjrekar for picking the ‘bits and pieces player. Now Siddharth, the 40-year-old Indian actor, also took a dig at the commentator. Even as he referred Harsha Bhogle as his favourite in the field, he described Manjrekar’s commentary as ‘terrible’, ‘partisan’ and ‘crass’. He went harsher and called him an ‘idiot’.
The renowned actor took to Twitter and wrote, “Harsha Bhogle is my favourite Indian commentator. No cricketer can ever use his never having played international cricket against him. So the Jaddu issue is not about ego. It’s about terrible, partisan and crass commentary which so many have called out. Stop babysitting an idiot.”
