Yuvraj Singh and Stuart Broad’s fates were tied together forever the day Yuvraj hit the pacer for six sixes in the World T20 2007 game in South Africa. To date that is the only instance in T20I cricket when a batter struck six maximums in an over. Very recently it was England youngster Sam Curran who hit six sixes in his knock against Sri Lanka in the Galle Test. It wasn’t on consecutive deliveries but the all-rounder hadn’t hit a single boundary in his innings.
Curran batting at number 8 once again proved he is a far better batsman. He soon had the last man James Anderson for company, he didn’t just shield the lesser batter but also whacked the ball around causing a lot of damage late in the innings. In fact, he hit a half century and shared a 60-run partnership which is England’s best stand for the last wicket on Sri Lankan soil.
The duo ensured Sri Lanka posted a total very close to 300 after losing 7 wickets for just 171 runs. Curran likes to play his shots against the spinners and took the attack on Akila Dhananjaya this time. The spinner didn’t do a lot wrong but it was the left-hander’s intent that helped him clear the ropes.
Curran hit six sixes in his innings before striking a single boundary. He was the last man to fall in the innings but only after contributing 64 runs. England and Wales Cricket Board on their official Instagram page posted an image of the 20-year-old and wrote- “Ever seen someone smash six sixes before they hit their first four?”
While that was dedicated to Curran, Stuart Broad who is a part of the touring party but not playing the 2nd Test saw the funny side of it. He commented there and tagged Yuvraj in it.
