Stuart Broad seemed to have loved every bit of the Birmingham Test

Broad picked up a couple of wickets in the first Test in Birmingham.

The opening Test match between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham turned out to be an exciting one. Both teams had equal opportunities to pounce on to each other. However, it was the home team, captained by Joe Root, who held their nerves and stormed to victory by 31 runs. Moreover, they won their 1000th Test match and took a much-needed 1-0 lead in the series.

Previously, India lost five out of their six Tests at the venue and had an opportunity to emerge triumphant, but eventually, they couldn’t courtesy of a sparkling performance by the English pacers. Chasing 194, the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals and suffered too many hiccups en route their journey of tracking the target down. Virat Kohli, the Indian captain scored a magnificent half-century.

He was one man England would’ve loved to dismiss and Ben Stokes put his hand up to nip the Indian stalwart. Kohli went for the Decision Review System (DRS), however, replays didn’t favour him. Stokes dismissed Mohammed Shami in the same over to put the skids under India. Ishant Sharma and Hardik Pandya showed some fight but the English attack turned out to be too handle for the Indians.

In the first innings, Virat Kohli played a superlative hand of 149 runs from 225 balls to bail India out after Sam Curran and Ben Stokes wrecked havoc with a few quick wickets in the middle overs. While most of the Indian batsmen strained to find their rhythm, Virat looked at ease and staved off the bowlers without much fuss. Meanwhile, Stuart Broad was delighted after England’s victory.

Broad couldn’t pick up any wicket in the first innings, but pinned the openers Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay in the second innings to make early inroads into the Indian batting. Following the win, the fast-bowler took to Twitter and posted a picture from the match.
