Former Australian batsman Stuart Law is the fore-runner to take up the coaching job for the Pakistan national side. The news came after the Board of Governors met at Lahore and stated that the Australian is PCB’s first choice at the moment. Andy Moles has been zeroed in as a backup if things do not get finalized with Law. His appointment has not been finalized yet.
“Moles is the back-up as the PCB has to sort out some issues with Law because of his prior coaching commitments,” Shaharyar Khan, the PCB Chairman told PTI.
Law played 54 ODIs and a Test for Australia during his playing career. He then took over the coaching assignments in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. He has coached the Queensland team in the Sheffield Shield in Australian domestic cricket. He also had his stint as the coach of Essex and Lancashire in the county competition. He is, hence, no short on experience when it comes to coaching an international side.
He is presently preparing for an assignment as batting consultant to the Australian team for the tour of Sri Lanka in July-August. He had submitted his application for the post with the PCB before the deadline of 25 April set by the board. After the Board of Governors met, Law was the unanimous choice for the job. The PCB did not make any official announcement about the same and said a few negotiations are to be done before his appointment.
“We don’t want to make any announcement right now until the contract is signed as we are still talking to the candidate (s),” Shaharyar Khan added.
