Stuart MacGill, the new spin bowling coach of Bangladesh
BCB had many options to choose from, but they have finalized on the name of former Australian spinner, Stuart MacGill for the job.
President of Bangladesh Cricket Board(BCB), Nazmul Hassan Papon earlier this month had revealed that BCB was looking for a spin bowling coach. The board had many options to choose from, but they have finalized on the name of former Australian spinner, Stuart MacGill for the job. The board on Sunday confirmed the appointment of MacGill as the spin bowling coach for the next three months.
Stuart MacGill can be a temporary appointment
BCB president in his interview to bdcrictime had said that many first choice options for the position were not available for few months due to some prior commitments. But Bangladesh was without a spin bowling coach for a long time and chose to look into options which were available at the earliest.
Therefore, Bangladesh has finalized the 47-year-old for the job. According to reports, MacGill has been offered only a three-month contract. MacGill might serve only as an interim spin bowling coach until the first choice options become available for the job.
The former Australian spinner will be arriving in Dhaka before the two-match Test series against Australia. MacGill is the second high profile name in Bangladesh national team’s support staff. Bangladesh already have legendary West Indian pacer Courtney Walsh within their ranks. This decision was finalized in the board meeting held at the BCB headquarters on Sunday.
Tenure of national selectors extended
The board also sat down to decide the future of national selectors. When Nazmul Hassan Papon was asked this question earlier this month. Then he said that the decision would be taken at the board meeting of the BCB. He had further said that decision would be taken after evaluation of the performance of selectors.
The board members were seemingly happy with the performance of the national selectors as their stint was extended. The selectors were offered a one-year extension by the BCB.
