Former Australian cricket Stuart MacGill is set to fight the major allegations filed against him. Last week, the ex-spinner was charged by police with a string of offences for allegedly abusing a Sydney bar opener. The incident took place on February 1 outside a Millers Point home in central Sydney. Police have claimed that MacGill and his co-accused Stephen Kerlin verbally abused Samantha Lorraine Ford.
It has also been alleged that the duo’s tirade continued outside the bar on the same street and Kerlin then assaulted a woman. The matter first appeared in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday. While MacGill, 50, didn’t appear, his lawyer Michael Djurichkovic told Magistrate Susan Horan he would enter pleas of not guilty.

MacGill was charged for intimidation and using foul language in a public place last Friday. Police have also taken out an apprehended violence order against the former cricketer. “Two men have been charged after allegedly intimidating a woman in Sydney earlier this month. Police will allege about 6pm on Tuesday 1 February 2022, two men – aged 51 and 54 – approached a 56-year-old woman outside a home on Kent Street, Millers Point, and verbally abused the woman before leaving the scene,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“A short time later, the two men approached the same woman outside a licenced premises on the same street and continued to verbally abuse her, before the older man assaulted the woman. The men left the scene and officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were notified and commenced inquiries,” the statement read further.
Meanwhile, MacGill will appear in court again next month to fight against the case. On the other hand, Kerlin has been charged with common assault, intimidation and contravening an apprehended violence order. He is scheduled to face court again in September.
