Scotland’s historic ODI win over England will not be forgotten soon by their fans. It was a fantastic effort from them in the game which was played in Edinburgh a few days ago as they caught the number 1 ODI side in the world by surprise. However, the fans now have the chance to be a part of the history as they the stump from the match signed by George Munsey and Preston Mommsen is set to be auctioned for charity.

Calum MacLeod played an inning of his life as he smashed 140 runs off just 94 deliveries. He was well supported throughout the 50 overs by his teammates as the skipper Kyle Coetzer and Munsey scored half-centuries. They went on to post a mammoth total of 371 runs in 50 overs and no wonder England’s strong batting line-up was still tipped to gun down the steep target.

Expectedly, their openers went all guns blazing with Jonny Bairstow scoring an enterprising ton. They were going sailing smoothly until the halfway mark but lost too many quick wickets. The home side made a stunning comeback and bundled England out 6 runs short of their target to register a remarkable win.

When is the auction?

George Munsey was instrumental in their victory by scoring a brilliant 55-run knock at the back end of the innings. He has now donated the stump from the famous win and will now be auctioned in support of the Gordon’s Fightback campaign, raising funds for MND Scotland. The auction will be held in the next two days now and there is no doubt that the fans will be excited to be the part of the history.

“However much I prize this memento of an amazing, historic day, it would be an even greater prize if its auction helped to find a cure for MND [motor neurone disease]. I hope someone will dig as deep as we did to win it,” he was quoted as saying by Edinburgh Evening News.
