The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given its ultimatum to former Indian cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar. The owner 34 Test centuries, has been asked to sell his stakes in a sports management company or to put an end to his career as a commentator by the board according to Times of India.

Details:

The BCCI has ordered Gavaskar to make up his mind and go for one out of the two in accordance with its conflict of interest guidelines, as per reports. The Professional Management Group has been involved in various major sporting events in India. Gavaskar sits at the top as the Director of the Company which was formed in 1985 and it has also been working in collaboration with Indian cricket.

If reports are to be believed, Gavaskar is not ready to give up on his career as a commentator and is, therefore, planning to sell his stake to a close family member. The board has made it clear that Gavaskar would not be allowed to do and has asked him to sell it to an outsider, the reports added.

“The board made it clear to Gavaskar that he can’t sell his stake in PMG to his family members,” a BCCI official told the daily. “He has agreed to sell his stake to an outsider as he wants to continue with his role of a commentator, and also wants to set the right example.”

According to some other reports, Gavaskar is reluctant to sell his stake and has a meeting lined up with the board about the same. The 68-year-old Sunil Gavaskar is a renowned commentator and pundit. The legendary cricketer was an active commentator in the just concluded India’s tour of Sri Lanka and has been an integral part of the IPL commentary panel. It is a tricky situation for the veteran and will be exciting to see how he goes about it.
