Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was all praise for Indian middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane at the end of day 2 of the 3rd Test against New Zealand. In an interview with the NDTV, Gavaskar termed Rahane as the ‘most complete batsman of India at this stage’. He acknowledged the way Rahane settled in and partnered with Virat Kohli to put heavy runs on the board.
The Mumbai batsman was clearly seen struggling against the short ball and the Kiwis tried their best to exploit his weakness. However, Rahane was an inch better and trounced the Kiwi bowlers to end up with a brilliant 188. In the process, he put on 365 runs for the 4th wicket with skipper Virat Kohli as India piled on runs in excess of 550.
Commenting on his knock, Sunil Gavaskar said that skipper Kohli will surely be mighty pleased with his effort. He believes that having the confidence of the skipper in his favor will help him perform even better and stay motivated. Gavaskar further compared him with Kohli as well, citing that both batsmen are never satisfied with whatever they achieve.
“Ajinkya Rahane is India’s most complete batsman at this stage. Like Virat Kohli, he is never satisfied by what he does. I am sure Virat will acknowledge how important a role Rahane has played for India. When you have the confidence of your captain, you are motivated to do even better,” said Gavaskar.

Speaking on the status of the match, the Litter Master believes that both batsmen, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, have easily batted the opposition out. He affirmed that New Zealand do not stand a chance to win the match from this stage unless they come up with a miracle of own sorts. However, he did mention that securing a draw is definitely on the cards as the pitch looks good to bat on.
“Kohli and Rahane have batted New Zealand out of the park. It will be impossible for New Zealand to win this Test unless they can come up with a miracle. Of course, they can still save the game. It’s still a good wicket to bat on,” conceded Gavaskar.
