There is no doubt in the fact that Virat Kohli is once in a lifetime batsman. There is also a chance that the current captain will end up as the most successful one that India has ever had by the time he calls it a day. Former Indian opening batsman Sunil Gavaskar was amazed by how Kohli has matured over the last year and is confident that he can be the best leader for the nation if he continues in the same way.

The 30-year old had been severely come under the scanner, having lost the Test series in South Africa and England, owing to faulty team selections. Not only the team selection but also his over-aggression on the park and his on-field decisions have been condemned. However, the tables have turned on Gavaskar as he managed to draw respect from one of his biggest critics.

The 69-year old was impressed with the way Kohli had bounced back from his failures on the cusp to create history. He still had concerns but is optimistic that if the Delhi-born keeps learning he can be the greatest captain that India has ever had in terms of results as well as in terms of extracting the best from his fellow countrymen.

“As a captain, I still have my little concerns but I think now what has happened, he is a fast learner, and we have seen that in this series. If he keeps learning, he is going to be the best-ever captain that India has had, in terms of results and in terms of getting the players to perform at the highest level.” Gavaskar said as quoted by India Today.

Australian veteran highly respectful of Kohli

Former Australian captain Michael Clarke didn’t hold himself back either to hail Kohli as the best captain of the series. Clarke was particularly awed with the way Labuschagne was trapped with a change in field placement which enabled him to throw his wicket away and the attacking intent shown by him.

The former right-hander affirmed Kohli as the best captain and felt that the Indian has totally outclassed his Australian counterpart, having been a shrewd tactician.

“At the moment, India has won the battle on the field in regards to the two teams and Virat Kohli has won the captaincy battle against Tim Paine. I think this has been a really good series for him tactically. Individually I think he hasn’t scored as many runs as he would like. I mean he has got one hundred in this series, which in my opinion was probably the best hundred he has scored in the career so far, and he has batted beautifully.” the 37-year old said.
