Sunil Gavaskar lashes out at Rohit Sharma following dismissal at Lord's
The Indian opener was out to a rather unwanted shot.
Rohit Sharma is one of India’s best cricketers. Having been one of the best batsmen to have been produced, Rohit’s class, finesse, and elegance have been an enduring hallmark of a cricketer who has come up the hard way and through the ranks in the labyrinth of Indian sport, so to speak.
One thing about ‘The Hitman’, as he is fondly known has been in quite good form lately. However, in recent times, his shot-making abilities have been called into question. In fact, in recent times, if he keeps his head, Rohit eventually ends up making a massive score. However, shout all of this go south, it would ensure that he fails rather miserably with the bat, both extremes many have seen.
That is why, when Rohit was dismissed rather cheaply in the 2nd ODI at Lord’s against England, there were many who questioned his decision-making abilities when he made a futile attempt to smash a hoick down to third-man from a 90 mile-an-hour delivery from the erstwhile Mark Wood. And a certain Sunil Gavaskar, pearched atop the commentary box in Lord’s was simply not pleased with the way Rohit had gone about trying to make a shot.
Here is what Sunil Gavaskar had to say about Rohit Sharma
Gavaskar said that it might have been over-confidence on the part of Rohit when he attempted the shot. Speaking to the BBC after Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, Gavaskar said, “Strange kind of shot after making a hundred in the previous game, maybe sometimes over-confidence can seep in. It was a really ugly hoick because he is such an elegant player.”
As things stand, the Indians are three down and chasing 323 to secure a much-deserved win the series.
