Sunil Gavaskar not happy with MS Dhoni and Dhawan not playing domestic cricket
Both the cricketers will now be in the action for the ODI series against Australia in January.
The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is known for not mincing his words. He puts forth his views without any hesitation and even this time he has done the same. With the Indian Test team set to play the four-match Test series in Australia starting from December 6, he feels that the limited-overs specialists MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan should play domestic cricket.
MS Dhoni last played a competitive during the ODI series against the Windies and then was left out of the T20I series which followed and didn’t make it to the Australia T20s as well. He is struggling with his batting to a large extent and his form is been worrying with the World Cup only a few months away. In Dhawan’s case, he was the Player of the Series in the T20I down under and both the cricketers will now be part of the ODI series against Australia in January.
BCCI and selectors should be questioned
Sunil Gavaskar, while speaking to the India Today, was entirely pleased with the two cricketers skipping the ongoing Ranji Trophy. MS Dhoni was recently seen at the reception of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh while Dhawan seems to be spending some quality time with his family by staying back in Australia.
He believed that the selectors and the board should be questioned for this approach by the players. “We shouldn’t ask Dhawan and Dhoni ‘Why you are not playing domestic cricket?’. We should, in fact, ask the BCCI and selectors why are they allowing players to skip domestic cricket when they are not on national duty. If the Indian team has to do well, players have to be in prime form and for that they have to play cricket,” he said.
Dhoni will be soon travelling to Australia for the three-match ODI series and all the eyes will be on him as the time is running out for the veteran to perform to his potential ahead of the World Cup.
