Sunil Gavaskar points finger at two Indian players over fielding
The team does have a couple of slow movers in the field.
The Indian team, of late, has enjoyed tremendous success. The Men in Blue dominated the home season, beating every formidable opponent across all the formats. On Wednesday, India equaled the record for most consecutive Test series wins after playing out a draw against Sri Lanka at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla.
Virat Kohli led the troops with flair and went on to shatter records after records in the Test series. He scripted history by becoming the fastest to hit six double centuries and the first skipper to score past the 100 run mark in three consecutive Tests. However, the Indian team’s success has been built not just around high-quality batting. Even bowling and improved fitness levels have been the key to success for every player.
More work to be done
With Kohli leading from the front, there has been a drastic improvement in the fielding standards of the team. In fact, fitness is now a major factor when the squad is selected for any tour. Although former cricketers and pundits have applauded Kohli for introducing a new culture in the team, there is still more work to be done.
While the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha (wk) and Kohli himself are at par with the best in the world, the team does have a couple of slow movers in the field. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar on while commentating from the box pointed his fingers at two such players during commentary on the final day of the third Test between India and Sri Lanka.
“He looks like a car that runs with a handbrake on,” Gavaskar said as Cheteshwar Pujara chased a ball to the boundary rope.
The legendary opening batsman also added Ravichandran Ashwin to the same category. “There’s intent but not much progress,” he said commenting on how the two run around in the field.
