Sunil Gavaskar responds after Anushka Sharma slammed him for dragging her name in his alleged comment

The former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has been at the receiving end of all the criticism over his statement on Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma during the commentary on Thursday. He had referred to the couple playing cricket in their apartment during the lockdown while speaking on the batting practice of the RCB skipper. However, a few words were misquoted on social media and Gavaskar had to face the wrath of the same.

Rather it turned into a controversy after Anushka Sharma reacted over his comment and slammed the 71-year-old for dragging her name in cricket. In her long statement on her Instagram story, Anushka asked the reason for dragging her name and felt that people are unnecessarily taking her name during a cricket match.

Now Sunil Gavaskar, while speaking to India Today, has clarified his stance on the matter and has cleared that he never blamed her for Virat Kohli’s failures. He also stated he was just talking about a video of them playing in their apartment while also pointing out that he was just discussing about Virat’s batting practice during the lockdown.

“Where am I blaming her? Where am I being sexist in this? I am just stating what was seen in the video which was maybe recorded by somebody in the neighboring buildings and then put up. Virat also had no practice and the only practice that they had was when they were seen them playing in their building compound and Anushka was bowling to him. That’s what I said.

“Where am I blaming her for Virat’s failures? I am only saying that the video said that she was bowling to Virat,” Sunil Gavaskar said. Explaining his views further on the matter, the cricketer-turned-commentator also stated that he is the one who has always batted for wives going on a tour with their cricketer husbands and reiterated that he has not blamed Anushka at all in his comments.

“You know me, I am the one who has always batted for wives going with husbands on tour. I am the one that a normal guy going to the office for a 9-5 job, when he comes back home, he comes back to his wife. Similarly, cricketers, when they go out for a tour or even when they are playing at home, why can’t they have their wives with them?

“Because after their working hours are over, they have to get back to their wives like every other common man does. So I am not blaming her,” Sunil Gavaskar further added.
