Sunil Gavaskar wants Virat Kohli to call Sachin Tendulkar to pick his brain
Virat Kohli last scored a century in November 2019.
India were dominant in Test cricket in 2021 as the team won matches in Brisbane, London (twice – Lord’s and Oval), and Centurion. The team is also ranked in the first position in Tests in ICC Rankings with 124 rating points. The Indian bowling attack is one of the best in the world currently and has won several matches in the past few years.
However, Virat Kohli struggled and the wait for his 71st international century continued. He has not scored a century in any format since 2019. In the Centurion Test, Kohli made 35 and 18 in the two innings and got out flirting at the deliveries outside the off-stump on both occasions.
In a post match show on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that Kohli should call Sachin Tendulkar. Gavaskar remembered India’s tour of Australia in 2003-04 where the master blaster hit a double century in the first innings of the Sydney Test. Sachin also made a half-century in the second innings which helped the Indian team draw the match and the series finished level at 1-1.
Gavaskar mentioned that just like Kohli, Sachin had the tendency to chase deliveries outside the off stump that he managed to control in Sydney.
“Going back to Kohli, it would be fantastic if he calls Sachin Tendulkar up to wish him a happy new year. And during that talk, if he can maybe just check with him how he curbed his offside shots in the year 2003-04 against Australia,” Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar also recalled that Tendulkar was getting caught in the covers or behind the wicket but in the Sydney Test, he decided to not play in the covers region. Sachin managed to score a double century with excellent control on his shot-making
“He was getting out caught in the covers or caught behind, and then in that fourth Test match, he decided he’s not going to play in the covers. He was only playing maybe mid-off or straighter and on the on side; and what did he end up with? 241 not out in the first innings and 60-something not out (60*) in the second innings,”
“Just maybe wishing him happy new year and maybe just picking him brains, asking him how he did it, might help him as well,” he added.
