The Bangladesh Cricket Board has gone ahead and added yet another coach to their staff in the form of Sunil Joshi who has been roped into Chandika Haturusingha’s entourage as a spin bowling coach. While he will certainly be expected to formulate a partnership along with incumbent bowling coach Courtney Walsh, Joshi will also work on the developmental squad as advertised given the fact that he has mentored many a spinner in recent times.
The report also goes ahead and suggests that it was incumbent India coach Anil Kumble who had suggested the name to the Bangladesh Cricket board, something that had indeed prompted the Bangladeshis to go ahead and complete in the international cricket scene, something that would go ahead and ensure that they can indeed perform overseas as well.
Sunil Joshi was a part of the Indian squad at one point in time and was predominantly used as a left-arm spinner, something that had not really been seen since the days of Bishan Bedi. However, he did not quite make it in the grand scheme of things playing hardly the handful of matches before the Indians began to find the likes of Harbhajan Singh, Anil Kumble, and now Ravi Ashwi. However, Joshi’s performances with the baton of coaching has been quite amazing to say the least given the fact that he has coached the likes of Shreyas Gopal and KP Appanna as well. His most recent coaching assignment has been that of Assam in the Ranji Trophy.
Director of Cricket Operations of BCB, Mr Akram Khan said, “We are likely to complete all the formalities in a couple of days before the test match gets over. Actually it was Anil Kumble, who referred Sunil Joshi’s name to us to coach our young spinners.”
