Sunrisers Hyderabad cricketer reveals a weird tradition that the team follows
SRH made their IPL debut in 2013 and under David Warner won their first and only title in 2016.
Sunrisers Hyderabad made their Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2013 after the board decided to sever ties with the Deccan Chargers. Emerging out of Hyderabad, the franchise won the championship title in 2016 under the leadership of David Warner and has been one of the few consistent teams. In the 2018 IPL auction, they managed to hold on to the core of their side and will be very happy heading into the 11th season of the tournament.
Among the local talents that they possess is former India U19 cricketer Ricky Bhui. He was for the first time signed up by SRH in 2014 but is yet to get a game. When his name appeared for bids this time, SRH got him back at his base price and the cricketer is now hopeful that he will also get a chance to make his much-awaited IPL debut.
‘Fine meetings’
In an interview with InUth, the Andhra’s Vijay Hazare Trophy player unzipped a secret from the SRH camp. Bhui said that the team has a thing called ‘fine meetings’. He revealed that the players have to pay a fine of Rs 1000 if they are found guilty of breaking a team norm.
It is an unwritten rule and extends to something as basic as singing songs in the team hotel. Bhui was fined for singing a bit too loudly as it apparently disturbed the team manager. If a player forgets a piece of equipment on the ground they are eligible for a fine.
“We have something called the ‘fine’s meeting’. Fine’s meeting is something, where if you have done a mistake you will have to pay for it. Suppose you forgot something on the ground, you will have to pay 1000 rupees straight. So I was fined because I was singing songs in my room. My trainer apparently who was on the other room heard it. It was 12 o clock at that time. So it disturbed him and I was fined. The fine’s meeting are so funny that players are fined for lame reasons,” Bhui said.
