Pakistan Cricket Board chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has backed the decision taken by the board and the committee to appoint Sarfraz Ahmed as the ODI team skipper. This comes after Azhar Ali stepped down from his post as skipper of the ODI side following a few disastrous performances with the bat as well as from his team. Inzamam, who remains to be one of Pakistan’s most successful and prominent skippers in recent times has gone on to back the decision of the board.
“I support the decision taken by the board to appoint Sarfaraz Ahmed as the ODI team captain,” he said.
Former Pakistani Test pacer Jalaluddin has also gone on to state that the PCB was trying to tempt Younis Khan into taking the reins of the captaincy in the Test team with Sarfraz Ahmed waiting in the wings for his time to shine as vice-captain with the hope that he would certainly go ahead and take over the reins of captaincy as well.
“Yes the timing is strange because Azhar is playing for the Lahore Qalanders franchise in the PSL,” former Test pacer, Jalaluddin said. “The talk now is about the PCB trying to convince senior batsman, Younis Khan to take over as the Test captain with Sarfaraz as vice-captain for an interim period,” one reliable source said.
Inzamam however, went ahead and stated that the performances in the PSL will be closely monitored when it comes to Azhar Ali and a call would be taken in the grand scheme of things as well. “We will be watching all the performances in the PSL closely and we will try to ensure that all top performances are given a chance later on,” he added.
