India was comprehensively humbled in the Test series barring the win in Johannesburg. However, Virat Kohli’s men turned their fortunes around in the One Day International series and won three games on the trot. Subsequently, they have taken an unassailable lead in the six-match series. They thumped South Africa at Durban and Pretoria and carried forward their stupendous form in the third game at the Newlands in Cape Town.

Their players combined well and brushed aside the Proteas by 124 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav turned out to be unplayable for the Proteas. Meanwhile, Mahendra Singh Dhoni completed 400 dismissals as a wicket-keeper in ODIs. While appreciations flooded for the Men in Blue, discarded Indian cricketer Suresh Raina also shared a note on Twitter for their stupendous performance.

Dominance for India, despair for the hosts

India racked up 303 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted overs. Virat Kohli survived an almighty scare when he was on a duck. However, he rode on his luck to score his 34th ODI century. He batted will the very end and notched 160 runs at a run-a-ball. The target was daunting, but not insurmountable by any stretch of the imagination.

However, South Africa made a hash of the target and stumbled alarmingly throughout their run-chase. They lost Hashim Amla early, but a solid stand between the skipper Aiden Markram and JP Duminy brought the Proteas back in contention. Nevertheless, Kuldeep and Chahal ripped apart their batting lineup with four wickets each.

The South Africans had their fair share of troubles against the wrist-spinners and it was no different this time around as well. They were eventually bowled out for 179 runs. The series now moves to Johannesburg for the fourth game of the series. While South Africa will be playing to evade a series defeat, India will look to close out the affair with another a couple of games remaining.
