The victory at Bay Oval ensured that India seal the series 3-0 with two matches to go. It was yet another significant win for the Men in Blue who have been in rollicking form in the limited overs format. This is only their second ODI series win in New Zealand after 2009 where MS Dhoni led the team. India failed to win a single match in the previous tour.

The No.2 ranked side in ODIs defeated South Africa 5-1 and even won the Asia Cup. The only series loss in the 50 over format last year came against England where they lost 2-1. Now India also stand a chance to whitewash the Kiwis in their own den. However, in Virat Kohli‘s absence, it would be interesting to see if India can pull it off.

Discarded Indian batsman Suresh Raina was all praise for the current unit. He portrayed how this was their third series victory overseas in a year in the 50 over format. The 32-year-old also lauded them for raising the bar as he took on to Twitter.

“ODI winners in South Africa, Australia & now New Zealand!! What a performance by #TeamIndia. Consistently upping the bar. #INDvsNZ”

Here’s Raina’s tweet

With the World Cup just four months away, the Indian team has already sorted their batting order. Suresh Raina who made his comeback in the England series last year failed to make a mark. He was subsequently dropped and has been out of favor since then. Raina also didn’t take part in the later part of the ongoing Ranji Trophy. His team Uttar Pradesh bowed down in the quarterfinals.

With the series already in hands, the Indian team management would be looking forward to test young prospects. Shubman Gill is likely to get a game with Kohli missing out on the remainder of the series. Rohit Sharma will be donning the captaincy honors in his absence.
