MS Dhoni fittingly won the Man of the Series award in the recently concluded ODI series between India and Australia. The veteran proved his mettle by scoring half-centuries in all the three matches of the series and most importantly stayed until the end in the last two games in the winning cause. He ended the series with 193 runs to his name and Suresh Raina is extremely delighted for Dhoni who explained him in the best possible way.
After being criticised for his slow knock of 51 off 96 balls, Dhoni has literally made his bat do the talking. He smashed 55* runs off just 54 balls in the second game when Team India was chasing 299 to stay alive in the series. To pile on the agony on the Men in Yellow, India’s most experienced cricketer went on to play yet another match-winning knock of 87 in the decider.
Reliable as ever
MS Dhoni walked in to bat with India struggling at 59/2 in the 17th over in 231-run chase. He first stitched a slow but affordable partnership of 54 runs with the captain Virat Kohli and then took Kedar Jadhav by his side to take the game forward patiently. The pitch was slow and Dhoni didn’t take any pressure of scoring runs and kept on playing his own game.
The required run-rate touched nine at one stage but it felt like India were always in control because Dhoni was still there in the middle. Eventually, the visitors sealed a historic series win with Dhoni remaining unbeaten until the end on 87 and Jadhav also scored a valuable 63.
Delighted with Dhoni’s form in the series, Suresh Raina was all praise of his Chennai Super Kings captain. He termed the 37-year-old as the ever-reliable batsman while also congratulating Team India for the series victory.
Here’s Raina’s tweet:
If reliable had to be described, it would've #Dhoni written all over it. Congratulations, #TeamIndia. What a special win!! @msdhoni @BCCI #INDvsAUS
