One of the greatest camaraderies in Indian Cricket is that of former Indian captain MS Dhoni and out of favour Indian international Suresh Raina. The two have played almost played together throughout the entirety of their cricketing careers, for both India and Chennai Super Kings.
However, things began to change for the Jai-Veeru duo of Indian cricket as the CSK franchise was relegated out of the competition for a couple of years. India started to concentrate on Test Cricket during the period and Suresh Raina was axed out of the ODI squad.
MS Dhoni also gave up his captaincy soon and the duo only shared the field while playing for two new teams in the IPL in opposite camps. Raina found it difficult to make the cut into the Indian squad with the onset of Virat Kohli era of Indian cricket which prioritised fitness.
That said, the heavyweights of IPL announced their comeback in the competition during the opening ceremony of TNPL 2017. The franchise came out and stated that they would go to any extent to retain their marquee player, Dhoni, in the coming edition of the IPL. The logical thing also would be to go for the likes of Ashwin, Jadeja, Bravo, Raina, McCullum, DR Smith, Du Plessis and others who have been a part of the core CSK team throughout the eight edition of IPL.
Raina on Dhoni’s form
“I would love to come back to CSK and play under Dhoni again. Coming back to Chennai and meeting all the groundsmen, I am getting all the fond memories back,” commented Suresh Raina on his intention to play for the men in yellow again. He then commented on the supreme nick his captain is in currently in Lanka.
“Dhoni has been batting really well. He is looking very calm and working really hard. Around Virat Kohli, he can definitely share his experience. He has made a seamless transition,” added Raina according to quotations from Cricbuzz.
