Suresh Raina has been one of the best fielders India has ever produced. He has saved a lot of runs for team India before and has plucked wonderful catches while fielding at crucial positions as well. Unfortunately, he is no more a preferred player now and is striving hard to make a comeback. But the ongoing pandemic has disrupted his plans and Raina has kept himself busy in interacting with the teammates and the media during this period.
During his latest conversation, the left-hander was asked to pick the best fielder in the current Indian team and without any hesitation, he named Ajinkya Rahane. Raina lauded India’s Test vice-captain for his brilliant catching skills and also pointed out that he has a special power while fielding.
“Ajinkya Rahane has better catching skills. I always love his positions while fielding. He has a different kind of power. His body can bend when he moves, that is very different from the rest,” he said while speaking to SportScreen.
Rahane is a very good slip fielder, says Suresh Raina
Ajinkya Rahane’s catching skills are certainly better than others. He had taken as many as 8 catches in a Test match against Sri Lanka which is still a record for a non-wicket-keeper. Suresh Raina is also a fan of his slip catching and praised for the amount of time the Mumbaikar spends practising before the match.
“He is a very good slip fielder, he judges the batsman’s movement from behind and anticipates, which is very important as the distance is not much between the slip fielder and batsman. He also practices like that so it makes it easier during matches,” the 33-year-old added.
Meanwhile, Suresh Raina has been training hard while at home amid the pandemic and is keeping himself fit to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) if the tournament goes ahead. He was looking forward to the cash-rich league to make a comeback to the Indian team again ahead of the T20 World Cup. However, the mega event is likely to be postponed for now with the next edition set to played in India next year.
