Sussex batsman Laurie Evans emulates the unorthodox shot played by the fortune teller in legendary blockbuster movie ‘Lagaan’, in the ongoing NatWest T20 Blast. The event occurred during the last match of South Division league round between Essex Eagles and Sussex Sharks.

Evans was taking guard during the ultimate over of the Sussex innings with the score of 164 for the loss of four wickets already on the board. The right-hander was in tremendous form as he scored 42 off just 30 balls. While trying to apply pressure on Peter Walter, Evans tried to innovate a reverse sweep and managed to paddle it past the gap between short third man and wicket-keeper.

The stance of Laurie Evans was such that it covered all three stumps with the batsman being open-chested completely. The shot reminded of the legendary shot played by the Baba in the Hit Blockbuster movie Lagaan. The role of Baba named Guran was played by experienced actor Rajesh Vivek. He managed to hit many boundaries with his unorthodox open chested stance covering all three wickets as if waiting for a serve in Tennis.

After posting an above par total of 172, Sussex Sharks dismissed the Essex Eagles for a paltry score of 117 within 16 overs. Will Beer starred with the ball as he picked up three wickets while David Wiese and Briggs shared a couple of wickets each. Apart from Evans, Luke Wright and Chris Nash were responsible for giving a lightning start with their partnership. Nash scored a 55 ball 73 while Wright gave apt support to his partner with his 23-ball 37.

The NatWest T20 Blast’s Twitter handle took no time in uploading the highly entertaining snippet by captioning,”This isn’t in the coaching manual ??@SussexCCC reach 1️⃣7️⃣2️⃣ / 4️⃣ as they hunt down a #Blast17 quarter-final spot!”. Despite ending up on 14 points, Somerset progressed to the quarterfinals due to superior net run-rate.
