Sussex happy to give Mustafizur Rahman a break
Mustafizur Rahman, the young bowling sensation from Bangladesh, has already made an impression for himself in the international cricket. He earned a contract with the Sussex team for the Natwest T20 blast and the Royal London One-Day Cup.
Rahman, who is currently in India playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, was expected to join the county team by end of May. However, progressive performances from his team have saw him being with the side for an additional week. Sussex skipper Luke Wright said that Sussex wouldn’t mind if the young bowler turns up a little late either.
He was quick to admit that in such a short span of time, Fizz has become a sensation. Sussex are keen to give him a week off before joining them. As per the reports, he might make his debut for Sussex on June 10 against Kent. Mustafizur Rahman has earlier expressed his desire to spend some time with his near ones after the IPL but the Bangladesh Cricket Board insisted him to play in the county, as they believe it will help him become a better bowler.
“Fizz is definitely coming but we are just clarifying the number of games he is going to play,” Wright told the Argus. “We have to understand he is a young lad who has been away from home for a long time in an environment where he doesn’t speak the language. He’s also played a lot of games so we want to give him enough time to rest so that when he does come over we get the best out of him,” added Wright.
Wright further explained that they expected him to arrive a little late and hence a couple of more matches wouldn’t bother them much in the tournament. “We always knew he was likely to miss the first two games so it is a case of whether he misses an extra game or not. Obviously we’d like him for as many games as possible as he is in such great form but either way he’ll still be available for a large chunk of the matches,” he quoted.

He further commended the young bowler and said they were lucky to rope him in their side. He said the team management believes that he will be a big player in the future. “When we did our research on him people told us what a big player he was going to be. When someone like Kumar Sangakkara says he is a special talent then you sit up and take notice,” he quoted.
“He’s proving how good he is out in India at the moment so we’ve done very well to get him on the deal we have as I don’t think he’ll be quite so cheap in the future,” he said.
Mustafizur Rahman is one of the leading wicket takers in the ongoing season of the IPL.
