Sussex sign New Zealand middle-order batsman for Vitality Blast
In order to add stability to the middle-order, they felt the need to rope in a hard-hitting batsman for the T20 action.
Team Sussex have secured the services of a New Zealand middle-order batsman. They found themselves in a spot of bother with their South African recruit Stiaan van Zyl getting injured ahead of the upcoming season of the Vitality Blast. In order to add stability to the middle-order, they felt the need to rope in a hard-hitting batsman for the T20 action. As a result of the same, they have signed up Tom Bruce for the entire season of the Vitality Blast 2018.
Tom Bruce has played 14 T20Is for the New Zealand side. He has been quite impressive ever since making his T20I debut in 2017. He has aggregated 958 runs in his career thus far. With Stiaan van Zyl likely to miss out on the action due to a knee injury, Sussex are having high hopes from the Kiwi. As per the reports in BBC, the head coach of the team, Jason Gillespie confirmed the signing of Tom Bruce.
“We have secured Tom’s services for our whole Vitality Blast campaign, which we are pretty excited about. Tom has experience on the biggest stage with New Zealand and is exactly the type of dynamic middle order stroke maker we’re looking for. The injury to Stiaan van Zyl forced us to reassess our squad and we’ve decided that we need to bring in a quality overseas batsman for the duration of the tournament,” Jason Gillespie quoted.

Sussex is a happy camp and the players enjoy each others company. Recently, Luke Wright had sent out a lovely message for outgoing Ishant Sharma. With such good atmosphere in the camp, Bruce will hope to prosper. Gillespie added that the nature of Bruce’s game perfectly fits the need of the team at the moment.
“He goes pretty hard, looks to get the scoreboard ticking pretty quick. We think he will be great in the dressing room. He is excited about it and part of our agreement is he has made himself available for all our practice games leading into the Blast so the lads will get to know him,” he added further.
