The Sussex county management and coach Mark Davies has expressed his optimism regarding the arrival of Mustafizur Rahman. The 20-year old Bangladeshi pacer shot to fame following his exploits against South Africa, Pakistan, and India where he impressed one and all with some spectacular bowling. Davies stated that he wanted Mustafizur to make his presence in the Sussex lineup to play in the NatWest T20 blast.
“We can’t confirm anything at the moment but I am confident he will still be joining us. He is probably the best bowler in the world at the moment so we’re very excited about him coming and we should know for sure what’s going on in the next couple of weeks,” said Mark Davis in a report carried by The Argus.
According to a recent report, the Bangladesh Cricket Board headed by Nazmul Hasan Papon is keen not to over-burden their prized asset. The BCB had also earlier prevented Mustafizur from playing in the ISL in order to help him nurse a few niggles in his shoulder as well as keep him fit and ready for the Asia Cup and the subsequent World T20. If he does return to Bangladesh after his stint at the IPL it would further delay his arrival at Hove as he would need to obtain a new visa to travel to the UK from Dhaka.
Akram Khan, the BCB official in charge of operations stated that a call would be taken on the 20-year old starlet following the end of the IPL. A decision is still pending on Mustafizur’s participation in county cricket this season but then again it is his personal decision, we can only make suggestions.”
A rumor also claimed that the 20-year old was mulling a decision on pulling out of the England stint entirely to head back to Bangladesh in order to recharge and recuperate. Davies, however, does not want Mustafizur to do the same.
Mustafizur Rahman, should he take part, will become only the third Bangladesh player to take part in the English county championships apart from becoming the first player from his country to represent Sussex. Shakib Al Hasan represented Worcestershire and Leicestershire while Tamim Iqbal played for Nottinghamshire.
