When it comes to the ODI side, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami become automatic selections in the playing XI because of their white-ball form in the recent past. However, in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the 3rd pacer’s spot is yet to be taken. It is the perfect opportunity for someone like Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, or Navdeep Saini to make a mark for themselves in the ODI playing XI.

Nowadays, it seems KL Rahul can do no wrong. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, he has been given the added responsibility of vice-captaincy. Besides, he’s also the first choice wicket-keeper in ODIs and T20is. Although he did make a few mistakes captaining Kings XI Punjab for the first time, he did very well to lift the morale of the team. This resulted in them winning 5 matches on the trot after losing 6 of their first 7 matches.

These are the opportunities players dream of, and they would certainly be looking to grab them with both hands. If KL does well as the deputy, he can potentially be the successor to Virat Kohli in white-ball cricket. While Bhuvneshwar has been an excellent bowler for India in the past 5-6 years, he has often been plagued with injuries. Therefore, it is essential that the other pacers perform well in his absence so that the Indian team continue to be a formidable ODI side.
