As we approach the end of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Bengal remained unbeaten in the tournament with the 4th successive win on a trot, defeating Jharkhand in a close encounter by 5 wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata today. Bengal won the toss and put the visitors in. Jharkhand rode on useful contributions from Virat Singh and Saurabh Tiwary to post a more than competitive 177 at the end of their allotted 20 overs. Ashok Dinda was the star performer for Bengal finishing with impressive figures of 2/28 in 4 overs.
Shreevats Goswami scored a brilliant 81 as Bengal chased down the target with balls to spare. His 43 balls innings contained 9 fours and 2 hits over the fence. Varun Aaron was the pick of the Jharkhand bowlers finishing with figures of 4/41 in 4 overs. In another match today Vidarbha defeated Uttar Pradesh by 4 wickets with 11 balls remaining. Uttar Pradesh rode on a well crafted 61 by Eklavya Dwivedi and posted 169 on the board. Vidarbha chased down the target with relative ease as all the middle-order batsmen contributed to the team’s cause. Ambati Rayudu was the highest scorer with 37.
In the 3rd match today, Assam defeated Orissa by 6 wickets with 9 balls remaining in the East Zone Contest at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Amit Verma was brilliant with the ball finishing with impressive figures of 3/19 in his allotted 4 overs to keep Odisha under 150 in their 20 overs. Assam won the match at a canter riding on a useful half-century by Pallavkumar Das.
In the last match of the day, Rajasthan defeated Railways by 21 runs. Rajasthan posted a mammoth 184 on the board courtesy half-centuries from Mahipal Lomror and Dishant Yagnik. Jharkhand faltered in the chase despite their impressive start as they fell short by 21 runs. TM ul-Haq and Deepak Chahar was the chief destructors with a couple of wickets each.
