Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-21: Jharkhand's Varun Aaron hospitalized; ruled out of the tournament
The pacer had not picked a single wicket in the only match that he played in SMAT 2020-21.
Since the time cricket has resumed after the global pandemic, many players have suffered injuries and illnesses which has made them lose out of playing days. Jharkhand and India pacer Varun Aaron joined the list of players recently after he was forced to pull out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-21.
The fast bowler has suffered laryngitis, a condition that happens due to inflammation of the throat from infection, overuse, or irritation. He was hospitalized because of this illness and won’t be taking part for the Jharkhand side in the ongoing T20 tournament. The reports which have come suggest that Aaron is currently in the hospital, where he is being treated for this condition.
Aaron ruled out of SMAT20 after just one match
A report on WION revealed all the details, which were quoted by a source. “Varun Aaron is currently hospitalized after suffering from laryngitis. He is being looked well by the doctors and is stable. Due to the development, Varun will not be able to play in the tournament and has pulled out.”
Varun had appeared for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2020. The pacer didn’t get to play more than three matches and also didn’t get a wicket. This tournament would have presented an opportunity for Aaron to get some performances under his belt before going into the IPL 2021 if he gets picked.
The Jharkhand pacer had appeared in the first match for his side in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament, but he missed out the second match after suffering the infection. The pacer had not picked a single wicket in the only match that he played.
Varun Aaron has not played for India in close to 6 years
For now, Aaron’s comeback into the national side seems very unlikely as the current crop of pacers has been doing quite well. He has played nine Tests and nine ODIs. His last appearance for the national team was in 2015. He has taken 18 and 11 wickets in Tests and ODIs respectively.
The 31-year-old has not played for India A for some time as well. The only way he could have made his international wickets is by picking more and more wickets. However, that doesn’t seem to be happening with his illness.
