Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, 2021: Day 10 – A record bowling performance, Delhi's big win, Samson @ 4000 runs and more stats
Here are the major statistical highlights from the final day of league phase in the Syed Mushtaq Al T20 Trophy 2020-21.
The league phase of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy came to an end on Tuesday where the Rajasthan, Haryana, and Bihar teams moved into the knockouts by topping D, E, and Plate groups respectively. Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh also joined the knockout phase having finished as 7th and 8th best sides across the five elite groups. Mumbai team, which went four consecutive games without a win, ended their campaign with a consolation win against Andhra.
Here are the major statistical highlights from the final day of league phase in the Syed Mushtaq Al T20 Trophy 2020-21:
0 – Gaurav Gambhir did not concede even one run in the three overs he bowled for Chandigarh against Arunachal. These are the most number of balls bowled by any player in a T20 match without conceding a run. The previous most was 2.4 overs by Arafat Sunny for Rangpur Riders against Khulna Titans in 2016 BPL.
3 – All the three overs bowled by Gaurav Gambhir for Chandigarh against Arunachal turned out to be maiden overs. He is now only the 6th player in T20 cricket to bowl three maiden overs in a match.
Manpreet Gony (4-3-5-3 for Punjab vs Madhya Pradesh in 2012), Samiullah Khan (4-3-16-0 for Sui Northern vs WAPDA, 2013), D Siva Kumar (4-3-6-4 for Andhra vs Hyderabad, 2014), Chris Morris (4-3-2-2 for Lions vs Cape Cobras, 2014) and Mohammad Irfan (4-3-1-2 for Barbados Tridents vs SKN Patriots, 2018) are the other five players with three maidens in a T20 game.
3 – Delhi defeated Pondicherry by 110 runs which is now their 3rd instance of winning a game by 100+ runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. Delhi got the better of Gujarat by 112 runs in the 2012-13 season and defeated Andhra by 111 runs in the 2015-16 season. Karnataka (4) is the only other team with three or more wins by a margin of 100+ runs in SMA T20 Trophy.
50 – The 4-run win against Kerala was the 50th victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy for the Haryana team. They are now the 8th team to register as many as 50 outright wins in the SMA T20 history.
56/8 – Arunachal’s total of 56/8 against Chandigarh is now the lowest 20-over total by any team in the history of Twenty20 format. The previous lowest was 61/8 by Iran against the UAE during the last year’s T20I game in Al Amerat.
4032 – Sanju Samson completed 4000 runs in the Twenty20 format when he went past his individual score of 19 in the game against Haryana. Samson scored a 31-ball 51 while leading Kerala team on Tuesday afternoon at the Wankhede Stadium which resulted in a 4-run defeat.
