The inaugural edition of the T10 league has been preponed to at least by a week’s time. The tournament has roped in some of the biggest names in the cricketing industry, with Shahid Afridi, Kumar Sangakkara and Virender Sehwag just being three of the names roped in for the tournament.
According to the earlier schedule, the tournament was supposed to be held in Sharjah from the 21st of December, till the 24th of the same month. According to the latest schedule, however, the tournament has been set a week earlier from December 14-17 before Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand.
Big Bash League and Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand, the reason
The main reason for the change is to accommodate a larger set of players, with no restriction of an international tour.
“The dates were clashing with the Big Bash League and also with Pakistan’s tour to New Zealand. That’s why we thought of changing it,” Parvez Khan, one of the board members of the T10 Cricket League, told Sportstar.
Khan received the advice first from the Pakistan Cricket Board, who would be touring New Zealand during the same time as well as the possibility of Big Bash league ruining the participators.
“They (PCB) suggested that look into the possibility of shifting the dates. This will help us have a better player pool and will also allow players prepare better for international commitments and the Big Bash League,” Khan added. Pakistan is set to travel to New Zealand on December 27, at the same time that the tournament was first scheduled.
However, also to the party were the franchises who supported the decision of bringing forward the dates of the tournament.
“The Pakistan team’s camp would begin a week before the New Zealand tour. So, their players would not have been available. We didn’t want that,” one of the franchise sources said.
