T10 League 2018: 5 flops of the tournament

The second edition of the very intense T10 League has just ended with Northern Warriors beating Pakhtoons by 22 runs in the final. The tournament was contested superbly by all the teams and was followed by millions of fans worldwide. This season of the league was much more improved than the first one, last year, with players showing more maturity and playing with respect to the situation of the match more often. The 2018 edition of the T10 league saw some players scoring runs in excess of 300, while some barely managed to get to 40. A few took as many as 18 wickets, while others were stuck on 2. It was not a perfect battle between the bat and ball but there definitely was quality in the contest. The legend has it, that those who perform well are discussed more than those who don’t. So to change the things a bit, here we bring you the top 5 flops of the 2018 edition of T10 League: 1. Kamran Akmal Kamran Akmal. (Photo Source: Twitter) The discarded Pakistani opener came into this tournament on the back of an outstanding PSL season. A lot was expected from him, more so, because the players don’t have to worry about building the innings in this format. It’s all about going hammer and tongs from ball one, and his team would have expected him to do just that, but unfortunately for him, he failed to deliver. There were moments, although very few, where fans thought maybe the senior Akmal just has broken the shackles with one good shot, but he somehow managed to crash those hopes to the ground in rather disappointing ways. The 36-year-old, who played for Maratha Arabians this season, played seven matches for his team, in which he got five chances to bat. To his disadvantage, he scored just 43 runs at a minimal average of 8.60. His strike-rate wasn’t great either, as he struck the ball at just over 126. 2. Evin Lewis Evin Lewis of West Indies. (Photo by Dave Rowland/Getty Images) The 26-year-old Caribbean, who played for Punjabi Legends in the T10 league, did no justice to his selection in the team. Lewis is an explosive batsman and has shown his potential in the IPL as well as at the international level in the past, but failed to click in the 10-overs format. He got enough chances to prove his worth but always ended up letting his team and the fans down. Lewis played a total of six matches this season and got a chance to bat in all six of them. His numbers are very disappointing as he only scored 40 runs in the whole tournament after getting to face 30 balls. Any strike-rate below 150 in the 10-overs format is considered to be disappointing, and Evin Lewis’ 133.33 justifies his inclusion in this list. 3. Luke Wright Luke Wright of Sussex bats. (Photo by Dan Istitene/Getty Images) The discarded English all-rounder was picked by the Bengal Tigers to give themselves a fine hard-hitting batsman who could come in handy with the ball in hand as well. As it turned out, the 33-year-old was a complete flop in all senses of the word. He performed so bad, that his fellow teammate in the league and former Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi, has three times the runs Wright has scored, to his name! The right-hander managed to compile just 39 runs in the tournament at a meagre average of 7.80 runs per dismissal. His strike-rate of around 121 didn’t help his cause either, as he was finally dropped by the Tigers in their eighth match. Having these numbers and coming out to be a top-performer would have surprised many, but since this isn’t the season of surprises, Luke Wright comes in our list of flops this season. 4. Isuru Udana Isuru Udana. (Photo Source: Twitter) The Sri Lankan all-rounder, who was a part of the Sindhis’ squad, was picked by them more as a bowler than a batsman, thus, he was handed over the ball on numerous occasions. His performances with the ball were a total shocker his team and the fans. Many expressed their disappointment over the fact, that even after Udana showed no promise right from the start, why did the Sindhis still persist with him. The 30-year-old bowled seven overs in the tournament, in which he gave away as many as 107 runs! He also gave his team three breakthroughs, but it’s the runs that matter more in this format. The right-arm bowler finished with an unimpressive bowling average of 35.66 and an even more dismissive economy-rate of 15.28. No big thing, he is a part of our list. 5. Mitchell McClenaghan Mitchell McClenaghan. (Photo Source: Twitter) The tall left-arm pacer played for the Punjabi Legends this season. A lot was expected from him, as he has delivered at the international level and in the IPL on numerous occasions in the past, but the well-built man was an utter disappointment for his team. His performances with the ball went from bad to worse in real quick time, that led to his exclusion from the team after only three matches. Mitch Savage, as his nickname reads, tried everything he had, but to no avail. He bowled only four overs in the tournament and picked up two wickets, but to the more important part, he went for a whopping 82 runs, at a terrible economy-rate of 20.50. For a player like Mitch, who has shown the world what he is capable of even at the highest level in the past, these performances are so not his.
