A whole host of cricketers from the UAE have been given an opportunity to rub shoulders with some international greats in the upcoming T10 League. The second edition of the tournament will be hosted by the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The inaugural season that took place in 2017 was a runaway success. This year, as many as eleven of the thirteen centrally contracted UAE players have been drafted into the eight franchises that are partaking in the competition.
The last formal phase of recruitment for the T10 League took place recently, and Chirag Suri, the young UAE batsman, will now get a chance to play alongside former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan. Suri, who was born in Delhi but raised in Dubai, will turn out for the Bengal Tigers with Zaheer. The Indian left-arm seamer bagged a total of 311 Test wickets. Suri will also be joined by fellow UAE teammate Mohammed Usman.
Rohan Mustafa, Mohammad Naveed to feature in T10 League
Five other players from UAE’s domestic circuit were also handed contracts to feature in the 10-over competition. Meanwhile, eight Indian players, including former Test cricketers such as Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, and Praveen Kumar will take the field during the course of the star-studded event. Even IPL veteran Pravin Tambe was signed by the Karachians recently.
Kerala Kings, who won the inaugural edition of the T10 League last year under Eoin Morgan’s leadership, have this year recruited Mohammad Naveed, UAE’s spearhead paceman who is ranked no. 14 in the ICC’s player rankings for T20 bowlers. He will join a Kerala squad that includes T20 stalwarts such as Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Sohail Tanvir.
The captain of the UAE cricket team Rohan Mustafa, who is currently in Nepal playing in the same T20 league as Suri and Naveed, will also feature in the second edition of the 10-over tournament. Munaf Patel, who was part of India’s World Cup-winning squad, will be one of Mustafa’s teammates in the Rajput’s setup, as will the big-hitting UAE opener Ashfaq Ahmed. The mega-event gets underway in Sharjah on Wednesday, November 21.
