T10 League 2019: Game between Team Abu Dhabi and Deccan Gladiators called off after organisers fail to print DLS sheets

Cricket is one of the few games that depend a lot on weather conditions. The conditions not only dictate how the ball would behave but sometimes also play spoilsport. Who can forget this year’s World Cup when a number of games were washed out, much to everyone’s frustration. But the governing body of the game has come up with different solutions to counter the affect of weather conditions.

DLS method is one of those solutions. It is a mathematical formulation designed to calculate the target for the chasing team in a match interrupted by weather or other circumstances. Over the years, this method has been really helpful in determining the results of rain-affected games. However, a bizarre scene was witnessed on Wednesday in the ongoing Abu Dhabi T10 League.

The game between Team Abu Dhabi and Deccan Gladiators ended without a result despite the availability of the DLS. But the game could not yield a result due to a bizarre goof-up from the organisers. The match was interrupted due to rain before being called off after the organisers failed to provide the teams with the DLS sheets. Thus the game couldn’t go ahead even after the rain had stopped.

Match was evenly poised

Talking about the game, it was evenly poised. The Deccan Gladiators had started their chase on a strong note after Team Abu Dhabi finished their innings on 118 for 4. Asked to bat first, Abu Dhabi were off to a shaky start with their opener Avishka Fernando departing cheaply. Luke Wright and skipper Moeen Ali then took the score past the 50-run mark before the former departed.

Moeen was struggling to get going before Mason Crane ended his painstaking knock of 18 from 14 balls. Wayne Madsen and Lewis Gregory then provided the innings with some much-needed impetus. Both the players hit some big shots as Team Abu Dhabi finished on a big total. Madsen scored 29 from 14 while Gregory slammed 20 from 10.

In reply, the Gladiators were off to a solid start with Mohammad Shahzad firing on all cylinders. The Gladiators had raced away to 25 in just two overs before losing their skipper Shane Watson on the first ball of the third over. One ball later, the game was called off thanks to the mistake of the organisers.
