T10 League 2019: Yuvraj Singh named Maratha Arabians' Indian icon player for the upcoming season

Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been named the Indian icon player of the Maratha Arabians for the upcoming T10 League season. He retired from all forms of the game earlier this year and has been plying his trade in the different leagues since then. He featured in the Global T20 Canada for the Toronto Nationals a couple of months ago.

Yuvraj is not the first Indian cricketer though to play in the T10 league. The likes of Virender Sehwag, Munaf Patel, RP Singh, Zaheer Khan among a few others have already featured in the competition before. Maratha Arabians named the former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower as the head coach recently and Yuvraj Singh’s signing must be a great boost for the team.

Yuvraj Singh is also looking forward to playing in the T10 League which is a completely new format for the southpaw. “It is an exciting new format to be part of. I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s biggest names in this league and representing team Maratha Arabians.

“It is going to be a thrilling time for the game of cricket. Its heartwarming to see leagues like T10 putting in so much hard work and offering such exciting format for sports enthusiasts,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Next.

Yuvraj Singh is a champion cricketer, says Sohail Khan

The co-owner of the Maratha Arabians, Sohail Khan has welcomed Yuvraj Singh to the setup. He termed the left-hander as a world-class player and hailed him for his contribution to the Indian cricket especially in the limited-overs formats.

“It is terrific to have a world-class player like Yuvi in our squad. We have all seen his exploits for India in various formats. He is a champion cricketer and has been one of the greats in the white-ball formats. It is a huge honour to have him in our squad,” he said.

The upcoming T10 League is set to commence on November 14 as Yuvraj Singh will play under Dwayne Bravo’s captain. The franchise retained the Caribbean player as a skipper and the owners believe they have assembled a world-class squad which can win the title.
