Rain played a spoil-sport on the 30th day of action in the T20 Blast. Hence, the only game that was to be played yielded no result. Just 14.3 overs of play was possible in the encounter between Derbyshire and Leicestershire and both the teams shared one point each. However, the 31st day of action compensated for the entertainment lost on the previous day.

There were six games that were played and provided the fans with some great entertainment. As we now reach to the business end of the tournament, the competition for the top spots in the points table is increasing. Despite the recent loss, Durham continues to top the points table in the North group. Somerset’s dominance in the South group continues as they now have 20 points. Here is how things progressed on the 13th day of the tournament:

Somerset vs Glamorgan – South Group

Glamorgan won the toss and elected to bowl first. Somerset lost Johann Myburgh early in the game for just 2 runs. Although Steven Davies and James Hildreth scored 36 and 47 runs respectively, they couldn’t get the team to a big total. The side was down to 126/5 in the 15th over. However, Corey Anderson, with a 30-ball 72 set the innings on fire as they posted a massive 210 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets.

Glamorgan struggled in the chase. Even though most of their batsmen got good starts, none of them was able to convert them into something big. Craig Meschede with 35 runs was the highest run-scorer. Glamorgan fell short of the target by 29 runs. Max Waller picked 4 wickets in the innings. The ‘Man of the Match’ award was shared between Corey Anderson and Max Waller.

Brief Scores:

SOM: 210/8 in 20 overs (Corey Anderson 72, J Hildreth 47, van der Gugten 2/27)

GLAM: 181/9 in 20 overs (Meschede 35, C Cooke 25, Max Waller 4/25)

Worcestershire vs Nottinghamshire – North Group

After being put into bat first, Worcestershire put up a massive total of 191 runs on the board in 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Their skipper Brett D’Oliveira was brilliant with a 37-ball 64. With a few other cameos from the other batsmen, they got to this respectable total. L Fletcher and S Mullaney picked two wickets each.

However, this total ended up being a below-par one on a deck that was great to bat on. Nottinghamshire’s opener Riki Wessels scored 55 off just 18 balls set the tone for the perfect chase. Jake Libby and Tom Moores who scored 37 and 30 respectively laid the platform in the middle overs as Dan Christian finished off the chase with 28 runs off 18 balls.

Brief Scores:

WORCS: 191/6 in 20 overs (Brett D’Oliveira 64, Joe Clarke 29, S Mullaney 2/34)

NOTTS: 194/5 in 18.1 overs (Riki Wessels 55, Jake Libby 37, Patrick Brown 3/28)
