T20 Blast 2018: Middlesex ropes in Ashton Agar for upcoming season
Middlesex won five out of their 14 games and finished seventh in the league table of the South Group in 2017.
The T20 Blast is scheduled to begin in the first week of July. There will be three games on the opening day in the North and South Group featuring Essex, Sussex, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, and Leicestershire. Middlesex is placed in the South Group and will play their opening game against Surrey in London on July 5.
The team had an erratic season in 2017 when they finished seventh in the league table of the South Group on the backs of five wins in 14 games. After the dismal campaign last time around, the franchise will be hoping to turn their fortunes in the upcoming edition of the T20 Blast 2018. Meanwhile, as per reports in Lords.org, they have signed Ashton Agar, the Australian all-rounder, for their next campaign.
“can’t wait to walk out at Lord’s”- Agar
Quite expectantly, the Western Australia-cricketer was delighted after being roped in by the franchise and for playing under the tutelage of Daniel Vettori. “I’m thrilled and very grateful to have signed for Middlesex for the upcoming T20 Blast campaign and look forward to the challenge of achieving success with them. It’s a great opportunity to play with an exciting group of players coached by Dan Vettori, a person I always looked up to as a young spinner and cricketer in general”, he said.
Lords, also known as the Mecca of Cricket and the Home of Cricket, is the home-ground of Middlesex. The team will play five games in the venue and Agar will be available to play in all the matches. The Perth Scorchers cricketer also hailed the greatness of the stadium and showed his eagerness to take the field at the iconic round.
“I can’t wait to walk out at Lord’s, one of the most beautiful grounds in the world – it’s quite a privilege.” the left-hander added.
