Mohammad Amir is now all set to light up England domestic cricket again after his starring display in the County Championship in 2017. The Pakistan star has been re-signed by Essex for this year’s T20 Blast. Amir, who had helped Essex win the County Championship in 2017,  will ply his trade for the club for eight games before leaving England for his commitment in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Amir’s stint with Essex will start with the match against Middlesex at Lord’s on July 18. He, however, will miss the next two games against Surrey and Kent due to family commitments. The left-arm pacer will remain with the squad until mid-August before heading to the Caribbeans for the T20 league. Amir’s last match with Essex will be against Glamorgan on 16 August.

The left-arm pacer will be looking to replicate his performance during his maiden stint with the county a couple of years ago. The 26-year-old had taken 28 wickets for the club in first-class and T20 competition. He had taken 14 wickets in both the T20 Blast and County Championship, including a memorable match-winning performance with career-best figures of 10-72 against Yorkshire.

Amir excited for another stint

Mohammad Amir, meanwhile, expressed his excitement on the prospect of playing for Essex again, stating that he is looking forward to playing for the club. “I’m very excited to return to Chelmsford and re-join my Essex teammates,” Amir said according to the statement released by the club. “I thoroughly enjoyed my time here in 2017 and I’m looking forward to playing my role in the club’s success this season.”

Anthony McGrath, Essex head coach, welcomed the signing, saying, “Mo is one of the most exciting bowling talents in the world and I’m ecstatic he’s going to be back with us. He has the ability to bowl at a fast pace whilst swinging the ball both ways and showed a real desire to come back to Chelmsford and be an Eagle again.”

Essex will be looking to put up a good outing this year following their dismal runs in T20 Blast in the last couple of years. Last year, they finished third from bottom in the South Group, winning just two of their 14 games. They had also failed to reach the Blast quarter-finals in 2017. In addition to signing Amir, Essex have the Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa and the T20 veteran Cameron Delport in the squad.
