T20 Blast: Rashid Khan ‘mobbed’ by more than 80 Afghanistan fans after the match

Sussex Sharks lost their game against Gloucestershire by 4 wickets in a T20 Blast South group encounter on Wednesday. But the home side was impressed to see the crowd being pulled by their star player Rashid Khan after the match. He personally had a decent outing as he finished with 2 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs, the best figures for his team on the night, though the target (129) set for the visitors was too low to defend.

After the game, more than 80 fans mobbed Rashid and took pictures and autographs with the leg-spinner who has evolved as a national hero in Afghanistan, something even its president – Ashraf Ghani – has acknowledged before.

The official Twitter handle of Sussex posted the video of the same in which the fans were showering their love on Rashid Khan. “Not our night tonight, but @rashidkhan_19 was in high demand! More than 80 Afghans came to see their hero,” tweeted Sussex Sharks after the game, feeling fully content to see the love for their star bowler even after the loss.

Khan, who made his Test debut along with his team against India in Bengaluru in June and endured a poor outing, has a completely contradictory career trajectory in the limited-overs format. While he is ranked second by the ICC among bowlers in ODIs, he is the table topper in the T20 Internationals.

He is also the fastest on this planet to capture 100 wickets in the 50-over format. He recently committed himself to Sussex in the T20 Blast and now will be available for them for the remaining group matches as well after earlier signing the contract only for the first half.

However, if the Sharks qualify for the knock-out stages, they will not get the service of the 19-year-old player but as of now, his availability has charged up the team, including their coach Jason Gillespie.
