It was a big day for the Mumbai Cricket Association on December 7. The MCA launched its first ever T20 league. The T20 Mumbai League is all set to get underway in early 2018. The tournament, which will be played on the lines of the IPL, will have 6 teams competing for the ultimate glory in its inaugural edition. The tournament will commence on January 4 this year and conclude on January 9 in Mumbai.
As per the press release by the association, the MCA has appointed the consortium of IIFL Investment Managers and its associated companies through a special purpose entity (IIFL Group), the Lead Member of the Consortium and Wizcraft Group to plan and execute the league in its entirety. T20 Mumbai League promises to be a big stepping stone for the players for Mumbai to put their hands up in high pressure games. The chairman of the board mentioned the same during the launch event.
“Mumbai has considerable talent and there are a lot of local boys who are fantastic but do not get the opportunity on a bigger stage. This league will give them a chance to showcase their talent and give them an opportunity to move ahead in life,” MCA President Ashish Shelar said in a statement.
India lives cricket
Meanwhile, the organisers also remarked that cricket is something that the country enjoys to the bits. This league will be yet another opportunity for the youngsters in the country. Unfortunately, two of the senior Mumbai cricketers, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, will miss out on the tournament because of national duty. The 6 participating teams of the tournament are – Mumbai North West, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North, Mumbai North Central, Mumbai South, and Mumbai South Central.
“India lives cricket and we are very excited to be part of this tremendous opportunity to create another platform for players of Mumbai to showcase their talent and shine bright,” quoted Karan Bhagat, Founder, CEO – IIFL Wealth Management Limited.
