England pacer Tymal Mills reported tightness in his right quadriceps during their game against Sri Lanka and left the field after completing only nine balls of his spell. It has been reported that the pacer’s further stint in the T20 World Cup 2021 is under question and the next 48 hours are going to be crucial for him. Though Mills found himself in the dressing room even before completing his spell, England went on to win the game by 26 runs.

Mills, who stands to be the joint highest wicket-taker for Englishmen in T20 WC so far, was substituted by Sam Billings in the Lanka game. He has been already assessed by the team’s medical staff but further scans will reveal the exact extent of his injury. It is quite clear that England have already cruised for the semifinals stage of the game having won four out of their four games.

If there will be any chance of Mills getting well in time, England might keep him out of their next fixture against South Africa. He will be crucial for them in the knockout stages which are all set to begin next week. England have three reserved players in form of Reece Topley, James Vince, and Liam Dawson and Topley would be the most eligible player to replace Mills in case he is ruled out.

A serious injury would come as a huge blow for Mills as well as his team as he was getting his rightful chance in the current tournament after battling series of injuries. Mills last played for England in February 2017 and came out with flying colours against West Indies and Bangladesh. Though he was quite expensive against Australia and Sri Lanka, he provided a great balance to the team.

England last played their game against Sri Lanka where they registered a convincing 26 runs victory. The highlight of the game turned out to be Jos Buttler’s stunning century who stood till the end to push his team to breach the 160-run mark while batting first.
