T20 World Cup 2021: Akeal Hosein takes a mind-blowing catch off his own bowling to dismiss Liam Livingstone

When the best teams play in a World Cup, some mind-boggling things are bound to happen. And the ongoing T20 World Cup witnessed two stunning efforts on the first day of the Super 12 stage. If a flying Aiden Markram taking a brilliant catch to dismiss Steve Smith was the best in recent times, Akeal Hosein’s catch later in the day has become the contender of the best ever caught and bowled dismissal.

The chips were completely down for the West Indies after their batters’ hapless effort. But the Caribbean bowlers showed great heart with the ball nipping out four wickets defending just 55 runs stretching England upto 8.2 overs in the chase. The last of those wickets fell thanks to a brilliant effort from spinner Akeal Hosein.

The spin bowler delivered a full delivery and on the pads. But the drift on the ball did Liam Livingstone in. He was early into his flick shot and the ball took the leading edge of the bat and lobbed to the left of Hosein who jumped superbly to complete the catch. Moreover, he didn’t let the ball fall from his hands after landing on the ground and also had his fingers under the ball as third umpire, after several looks, deemed it a clear catch.

After completing the catch, no wonder, Akeal Hosein was running in joy and though West Indies lost the game very badly, this catch was certainly the highlight of the match for them.

England romp home in a convincing fashion

It was a completely one-sided game thanks to West Indies batters who didn’t show any application in the middle. They were in a hurry to play their big shots and it only played into England’s hands who were perfect with their plans and field placements. The Caribbeans were skittled for just 55 runs in 15th over and England chased down the total in the 9th over itself.

That the chase was stretched till the 9th over was credit to Hosein who returned with the figures of 2/24 in his four overs. Ravi Rampaul also picked up Jason Roy’s wicket as West Indies lost the game by six wickets.
