The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Wednesday (October 13), launched team India’s jersey for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be played in the UAE. The tournament is set to commence on October 17 with eight teams fighting it to fill the four spots in the Super 12 round. The Super 12 round is scheduled to start on October 23 while India will be starting their World Cup campaign with a game against arch-rivals Pakistan on the next day.
As far as the new jersey is concerned, the team is stuck to its navy blue color. However, at the front side, there are shades of royal blue color on it with the country’s name written in Orange. The BCCI’s logo is at the left top corner with three stars above it as well.
The significance of the three stars are India’s three World Cup victories in its rich history. India won the coveted World Cup for the first time back in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s leadership. Then it was MS Dhoni and his men’s turn to bring the glory for the country. India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and then the 50-over World Cup in 2011 which took place in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Presenting the Billion Cheers Jersey!

India squad to be finalised by October 15
Team India will be wearing the new jersey during the warm-up matches as well. Virat Kohli and his troops are scheduled to face Australia and South Africa on October 18 and 20 respectively. As far as the squad is concerned, not many changes are expected but there are doubts over Hardik Pandya’s fitness in terms of bowling.
Several reports are hinting that the reserve players, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar could be elevated to the main squad if Hardik Pandya is left out. However, there is no confirmation on it yet. It has been understood that the selectors have decided to wait until October 15 to finalise the squad.
Meanwhile, Umran Malik, Avesh Khan and Venkatesh Iyer have been asked to stay in the UAE as net bowlers thanks to their performance in the UAE leg of the IPL 2021.
