T20 World Cup 2021: David Warner sends Mohammad Hafeez’s bizarre delivery in the stands

Pakistan are battling it out with Australia in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021. Batting first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Men in Green posted a challenging 176/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Chasing the challenging target, the Aussies got off to a terrible start as skipper Aaron Finch was dismissed cheaply.  However, David Warner didn’t put his guards down and played some delightful shots all over the park.

While the southpaw took the aerial route several times, his six off Mohammad Hafeez bagged the most limelight. It was the first delivery of the eighth over as Hafeez was gearing up to bowl the first delivery of his spell. The ball accidentally slipped out of the off-spinner’s hand and reached Warner in a couple of bounces. The southpaw’s eyes lit up as he moved towards the ball and smoked it over deep mid-wicket.

While Hafeez didn’t look happy, Warner seemed pleased after collecting six easy runs. With the ball bouncing twice, umpire Richard Kettleborough signaled a no-ball and a free hit was followed. Fortunately for Pakistan, the damage didn’t exceed as Warner took only two runs off that delivery.

Earlier in the game, the coin landed in Australia’s favour and they unsurprisingly elected to bowl in Dubai. Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman slammed remarkable half-centuries as the Men in Green posted a challenging 176/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Pakistan’s batting consultant seemed pretty pleased with his side’s performance as he heaped praises on Rizwan and others.

“This was a fantastic opportunity with Pakistan, big fan of this batting line-up, have performed superbly right through with the bat all along and tonight is no exception. Rizwan was in the hospital a night ago, suffering from a bronchitis condition, but this is a warrior, a quiet start to tonight’s campaign, but he has great courage, so has Babar, fantastic to see them combine so well,” said the former Australian opener after the end of the first innings.

In reply, Australia lost skipper Aaron Finch early. However, Mitchell Marsh and Warner played handy knocks to keep their side in the hunt. Now, the middle and lower order has the onus to take the Aussies over the line.
