England and South Africa locked horns in the final Super 12 game in Group 1 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 on Saturday. It was a huge game for the Proteas who needed to make sure they win by a big margin while it was all about continuing their winning streak for England going into the semi-finals. There was a small matter of crossing the 87-run mark for them in the chase to make sure they don’t get eliminated and they did it comfortably.

In an attempt to win big, South Africa batted well to post a mammoth total of 189 runs on the board. England’s bowlers visibly struggled in Sharjah and for the first time, the 50-over World Champions were up against it and under pressure. Their openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler had a job to do and the duo added 38 runs in just 4.1 overs getting the chase off to a fantastic start.

But before the second ball of the fifth over was delivered, Roy was down completely and wasn’t able to walk at all. Rather broke down emotionally as well and probably was in a lot of pain. Physio ran out to the middle and the injury was such that the batter was barely able to walk. It seemed as if Jason Roy was struggling with his left hamstring and it certainly didn’t look good while he walked off with support from both ends.

While he was in the middle, Roy looked in amazing touch scoring 20 runs off 15 balls with four fours which also included one off Anrich Nortje jogging down the wicket authoritatively.

Australia and England qualify for the semi-finals

England, however, didn’t stop scoring runs and Moeen Ali walked out to the middle to keep the run-scoring going. Good run-rate right from the word go meant that they first crossed the 87-run mark to qualify for the semi-finals and then also went past 131 to knock South Africa out of the competition. Arch-rivals England and Australia qualified for the semi-finals from Group 1 and things should be more clear as far as Group 2 is concerned.
