After a couple of low-scoring matches, fans witnessed some batting blitzes in the T20 World Cup 2021. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh crossed swords in their respective first match of the Super 12 stage and some quality cricket was on display. The Bangla Tigers would have been confident after posting 171/4 while batting first. However, the Tigers were stunned by the Lions as the Lankan side recorded a five-wicket triumph.
Speaking of how the game unfolded, Sri Lanka won the crucial toss and opted to bowl at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh didn’t receive substantial contributions from Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan. However, Mohammad Naim joined forces with Mushfiqur Rahim and the duo steadied the ship. Both dashers scored half-centuries and Bangladesh posted 171/4.
Chasing the challenging total, Sri Lanka lost Kusal Perera early and looked on the backfoot. Pathum Nissanka also got dismissed after scoring 24. While the Lions looked in trouble, youngsters Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa stepped up and scored remarkable half-centuries. Riding on their brilliance, Sri Lanka crossed the line with seven balls to spare.
