West Indies have finally opened their account in T20 World Cup 2021, defeating Bangladesh by four runs in what can be called a thrilling encounter. The game went down to the wire as fans of both teams were on the heels till the very last ball. However, Bangladesh couldn’t chase down a modest-looking 143 and suffered their third loss on the trot. Their chances of going through to the semi-finals are also almost over.
Speaking of how the game panned out, Bangladesh put West Indies to bat after winning the toss at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The defending champions got off to a terrible start as their top order couldn’t contribute much. Debutant Roston Chase did play a fighting 39-run knock but the scoring rate was still down. However, a fiery 40-run cameo from Nicholas Pooran took the Windies to 142/7.
Bangladesh’s chase never went smooth as the scoring rate was below six for the best part. However, wickets in hand helped Liton Das and skipper Mahmudullah to play some big shots towards the end. The equation eventually came down to Bangladesh needing four off the final ball. However, Andre Russell bowled a précised yorker and sealed the game for the Men in Maroon.
