Spare a thought for Team Sri Lanka! They came tantalizingly close to a thrilling victory South Africa in the latest T20 World Cup 2021 clash. However, those back-to-back sixes from David Miller sealed the game for the Proteas side. South Africa now have two wins in three games and they might be the dark horses in the semi-final race. On the other hand, Sri Lanka suffered their second successive defeat.

Speaking of the game, South Africa won the all-important toss and asked Sri Lanka to bat at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Like the previous game, the Lankan Lions suffered another batting collapse. However, opener Pathum Nissanka held one end and slammed a brilliant half-century. Riding on his prowess, Sri Lanka posted a competitive-looking 142 on the board.

South Africa’s chase didn’t go smooth as they lost wickets at regular intervals. While many Lankan bowled did well, Wanindu Hasaranga stole the show with a stunning hat-trick. The leg-spinner also put his side on command. However, David Miller and Kagiso Rabada played some splendid shots in the end overs as South Africa crossed the line in the penultimate ball, winning the game by four wickets.

3 – Wanindu Hasaranga became the third player to take a hat-trick in T20 World Cups. Brett Lee and Curtis Campher are the other two.

4 – Hasaranga also became the fourth Sri Lankan bowler to take a hat-trick in T20Is. Lasith Malinga, Thisara Perera and Akila Dananjaya got the feat before the leg-spinner.

4000 – Rassie van der Dussen completed 4000 runs in T20 cricket.

2 – Kusal Perera became the second Sri Lankan batter after Tillakaratne Dilshan to complete 1500 T20I runs.

13 – South Africa have now won 13 T20Is this year, most by any team. They went past Pakistan (12) to top the list.

2 – Among batters who scored run-a-ball in a T20 World Cup match, Temba Bavuma (46) has faced most deliveries. Chris Gayle (48) tops the list.

9 – Kagiso Rabada has now returned unbeaten in his last nine T20I innings.
